A Closer Look at the International Stadiums Poker Tour
After controversies, setbacks, scheduling changes, structural changes it's hard to believe that the International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT) is just a couple months away. The tournament concept considered by many to be a massive over-reach will soon be a reality and poker players will descend on Wembley Stadium in London, England for a first of its kind, large scale tournament combining online play with a live tournament. In this column I'll breakdown what poker players need to know about the ISPT.
Online Play
Online play (Day 1 of the ISPT) has already begun at poker rooms across the Internet, from Dusk till Dawn's online website to Lock Poker and other ISPT partners. These Day 1's will see the top 10% of finishers from each starting field punch their ticket to Day 2 of the ISPT which will be played at Wembley Stadium.
Live Play at Dusk Till Dawn
Players can also play Day 1 of the tournament as a live event at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club. DTD has announced they will host at least four live Day 1's, with the same top 10% of finishers moving on to Wembley Stadium.
Live Play at Wembley Stadium
Day 2 of the ISPT will see the first poker action at Wembley Stadium with the famed pitch (rumors of the tournament moving to one of the stadiums conference center seem to have been misplaced) and multiple conference rooms reserved for ISPT players. To accommodate everyone there will be two Day 1 flights, the first on Friday February 31st and the second on Saturday February 1st. According to a press release 200 poker tables will dot the Wembley Stadium field, with spillover (if any) taking place in conference rooms.
Players can also forego Cay 1 of the ISPT and buy in directly on Day 2 for €3,000. Players from Day 2a can also reenter on Day 2b.
Guaranteed Prize-Money and Payouts
One of the biggest hurdles/criticisms for the ISPT has been the guaranteed prize-pool. This number has changed dramatically since the ISPT was first announced, but there is finally a concrete number in place thanks to the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Room coming on board.
The winner of the ISPT Wembley tournament will receive at least €1,000,000 and the payout structure will be as follows according to a Dusk Till Dawn Press Release:
50% of the live field at Wembley Stadium will make the money with 85% of the prize-money going to the top 10% of finishers.
Preliminary Events
There now seems to be plans in the works for additional side events to take place around the ISPT Main Event, and it appears the tournament will turn into a full-fledged, week-long, tournament series.
